Bonnin’s paintings are characterized by their hyper-realistic portrayal of figures engaged in various states of motion—falling, twisting, or leaping—set against minimalist backgrounds. This approach creates a sense of tension and ambiguity, blurring the lines between flight and descent. His subjects often wear contemporary fashion elements like leather jackets, sheer tights, and designer sunglasses, which not only define their identities but also add layers of cultural and symbolic meaning to the compositions .

My work investigates two concepts, one being the role that photography plays in memory and the second being the relationship between painting and photography. By painting images from photographs of my own life--as well as the lives of friends, family and strangers--I create memories that exist in a space between reality and fiction. I remove details, change the colors within the image and blur and distort the figures so that the viewer can project their own memory and images onto the piece.

Clothing is both a form of self-expression and a set of unspoken rules. Dress Code explores this tension through a series of self-portraits, each featuring outfits from her personal wardrobe—pieces tied to memories, emotions, and evolving identities. Ranging from casual to formal, these works reflect the fluid nature of self-presentation. With bold composition and a limited palette, she highlights the ways clothing shapes, conceals, and reveals who we are.
